West of Deloraine is Mole Creek, where you'll find spectacular limestone caves, leatherwood honey and one of Tasmania's best wildlife parks. Marakoopa Cave, from the Aboriginal world meaning "handsome", is a wet cave 14 km from Mole Creek which features an incredible glow-worm display. King Solomon Cave is a dry cave with amazing calcite crystals that reflect light.
The leatherwood tree only grows in the damp western part of Tasmania,
so honey made from its flower is unique to this state. From January
to April, when the honey is being extracted, you can visit the
Stevens Leatherwood Honey Factory and learn all about this fascinating
industry. Two km beyond Chudleigh, on the way to Mole Creek, is
the Tasmanian Wildlife Park & Koala Village which is worth
a visit.
